I got the SLR out, not used it for more than a year! Montbretia Anemone (first flower just opened) Ugly but nicely scented climbing rose. Goldenrod almost over. This is one of few plants which was in the garden when we moved here almost 50 years ago. This is another - Mullein A few more finished shed details This is the post which wrecked the back door of his van when he tried to lift it out T'other side I like my doors.

A couple from yesterday's vintage car run which passed through the village. I was talking to a neighbour which distracted me, and a lot of the shots were a bit blurred from the movement as they sped by at up to 15mph I'm not an expert on ID, but the second one says Austin on the front.

Flood plain by The Esk. It looks like they got the silage done just before the rain yesterday morning. The field on the left is being cut and fed direct with a forage wagon, as it's difficult to graze conventionally. They were taking it to a dairy farm in Fryupdale a mile or more to the south. The river always comes out easily here near Danby, as it's very meandering. One bale seemed to have floated through a railway cattle underpass but had stopped in the next field!

For 4WD's benefit, this is our replacement Japanese maple (Acer). We think the previous one survived, in a pot because it's too alkaline in the ground for them here, for 20 years, so not bad value in garden terms. I know not everyone like Pampas grass, but I do. The blue thing to the front right is a Michaelmas Daisy relative, with a Medlar to the left just by the Pampas - complete with overgrown hawthorn-like fruits. The Colchicums were up early this year, and did well, but are OTT now... ....but the true autumn crocusses are slightly late, and making a good show.... ...and the hardy Cyclamen are going potty! Unfortunately the quince tree has fallen over, but it still looks good for the moment. There is also quite a good ripe grape crop on the end of the barn. Mrs RGSP doesn't usually grow big Dahlias, but these ones in pots by the moat bridge are almost surreal

Pampas need space imo - we had a good one in Uist. I sent some cut ones down here to mum for a barrel she had in the corner of the dining room [old house with bacon hooks in the vey high ceiling] packed in a plastic drainpipe! My little cyclamen have been spread about by a digging dog

The leaves have already come off my little maples, they did go through the expected orange and red phase. The question is whether the (plastic) pots need a bit of frost protection. I think if it's windy and subzero it could easily be harmful so might even be best put in the cold greenhouse during sever spells - and probably safer moved to a sheltered corner anyway. We are usually plagued by rabbits here and if anything is sticking out of snow they will demolish it! That's a far worse problem in the main garden than a corner of the yard.

You can see why this is sometimes called Fireweed, although it's also good at colonising burnt areas. Is it just here but Ash trees seem to have made a spectacular yellow show this year. This is a handy one rather than particularly good example! We've had this hardy fuschia since at least 1985. It's actually the same plant never been moved. Usually it is just about making a show when the first frosts hit. There's another single one I like better but wind moved it and is too blurry. Someone said this could be "Mrs Popple"?

Douthwaitedale: This sheltered deep valley near Kirkbymoorside usually has great leaf colour - and retains it longest as the winds seem to gust overhead.
