Hi everyone Im so sorry for getting in touch with you on your forum but i am really stuck at the moment. Iv been asking around to see if I can get permission to metal detect on a farmers land/property but had no luck as of yet I'm from Liverpool and I'm hoping that there is someone around the merseyside area that would kindly give me permission to search there field/ land. I am a member of the national council for metal detecting (ncmd) and hold insurance up to £10,000,000. I have also been granted a permit by the Crown Estate to carry out small dig but only on the foreshore. I have full search agreements issued by the ncmd in case of any finds found while on your land. I am also happy to drop a few quid in a pot to say thank you. I hope someone gets back in touch with me. Thank you for your time Darren Cotton

Hi Darren and welcome Not sure if you'll get much joy here regarding metal detecting - a few with the same hobby come and go, but you are now a member so I've removed your email address from your post for your own privacy as other members can now pm you safely.

Hi mate. I'm trying the same tact but I've been given some great advice by the moderators. It's true farmers like to see you face to face, I've got a few really good friends now who are farmers in the Sheffield area, at first they were mis trustful and probably saw me a a nuisance, but once I got the first one to say yes word got around I was genuine and professional. I belong to a fantastic group now and we have lots of farms in the Lincoln area, I will get involved in many discussions on here because it's actually very interesting stuff (farming) when you get into it, and I like to read the posts. I'm sure someone on here will give us a chance sometime but till then I'm sticking around because as I say it is pretty interesting stuff farming, sometimes wish I had gone into that instead of what I do. I love history and the country side and can't think of a better place to be. Well I wish you luck and hope we get lucky one day.

Aup mate yea I'm in the same boat just started the hobby up and trying to get permission too it is hard but u can see where the farmers come from its their livelyhood ect but it's the small minority that leaves what trash they dig up and don't even bother filling in the hole that gives us a bad name but I'm gonna keep trying I've got a top ov the range drone which I would be willing to take up and take some snaps or a video ov their farm and land just as a thank u ya never know we may be able to win their trust back anyway all the best mate..p.s there may be a saxons hoard with ur name on it somewhere lol happy hunting..mick

Hello Mick. Detector people that I know usually belong to a group - might help you? While I know most behave and it isn't fair to tar all with the same brush, some individuals are a pest! Joyce
