Sunset yesterday. The cotton grass is good this year, forming sheets which almost look like snow on distant hills. A couple of years ago it was even better and the flowers were so numerous they blew across the moor when done forming drifts at the side of the roads.

Kilburn White Horse. Like several other hill figures this is not as old as you might imagine, being cut by a local person in about 1857. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kilburn_White_HorseAlthough the nearby 'Whitestone Cliffs' are limestone it isn't very white after weathering, so the figure has always required chalk chippings and limewash every few years. The slope is extremely steep, on the top is a well known gliding club taking advantage of updraughts from the slope and thermals over the Vale of York.

Stokesley YFC tractor run. The more vintage ones were parked in the road nearer the village hall so at least 50 in total. It was for a charity but not sure which one till I get more info. Mainly a fun social event.

(Cheated it a bit by straightening the slope). They raised over £2000 for James Cook Hospital Neo-Natal unit, where one of the YFC members unfortunately lost a baby 2 or 3 years ago.

This light aircraft had to perform an emergency landing in neighbour's hay field in July. Due to the slope and long grass the propeller hit the ground and there was other minor damage. They've been to it a few times but repairs still ongoing. When the rest of the field is cleared they hope to take off again which will be rather challenging as there's a lot of humps and bumps.

Who's been polishing your bonnet? Did the plane take off?

Fixing the plane and taking off happened quite quickly 0 after prolonged waiting for parts they seemed to fit them and get it going in a couple of hours one morning and it was away. A closer neighbour said it was still very low over us but I might have been on tractor and didn't even notice anything except next time I looked it had gone.

Some pictures of our new fire-ball, on it's paving. The paving doesn't look that much effort, but because of its location, and being a roughly triangular shape, it was a lot of hard work. There's been a tarpaulin over the paving, so that the grout did not wash out before it was set. It was drizzling when the tarp got taken off this afternoon, but the grout is good and hard now. On the basis of this lot, I would recommend the various polymer-bound grouts for paving in prominent spot: it's quick, easy, and looks good. The snag is it's a lot more expensive than a cement+sand grout.
