Fireball and paving look great. A lot of precision work there. It is a bit nearer to the house than I'd thought.

First bookcase of three (in fact the smallest one) having had three coats of wax, and just before taking it indoors. Another view of it, showing that it is pretty-well square where it ought to be! A detail of the brass ferrules for the shelf supports, and the moulding on the front of the shelf.

Bookcase is beautiful anyone would be proud to display their books in that.

I've just given a final coat of polish to the 2nd bookcase, so, after leaving it outside for the smell of wax to evaporate off a bit, it can then go to its "home" beside the grandfather clock. There, I think that will cope with storing about 60 normal sized books. This one (and the next one) use Tonk strips for locating shelf supports. Putting the ferrules for Banjo supports in every inch, when there's a total length of 3' to do, gets a bit tedious, given front and back supports, left and right.

New workshop space. This has been going on intermitten tly all summer but is now more or less ready - to mess up again. Until May the old stainless bulk milk tank and refrigeration plant was in here and the area was horrible and damp even years after last use. Removing render from walls and new layer of floor has transformed it but still a bit low ceiling for farmy stuff really. I think stuff will gradually migrate into here from previous glory hole which you are definitely not seeing...

Cropton Forest this afternoon. The prominent orange tree is a Turkey or Red Oak I think. The leaves are much larger than ours but after good early colour they fall sooner.

We have one each of Turkey and Red oaks. The Red does have huge leaves and colours well (and drops its leaves early), while the Turkey oak leaves are more like "sharper" versions of English oak ones, and it often stays green quite a long while into autumn.
On a different tack, the timber from Turkey oak (Quercus Cerris) is said to be useless, and only fit for firewood, whereas Red oak (Quercus Rubra) is not bad.
Just to confuse matters, there also exists a Scarlet Oak (Quercus Coccinea), which is, I think, only grown as an ornamental. Our's does have good colour, both in spring when the leaf sprouts are red, and in the autumn, and the leaves are quite large overall, but heavily indented, so the total area per leaf isn't large.

I can't wait for this location to be revisited in 12 months time..... without any tidying first After nearly 11 years, my workshop looks like it is rented by a Jenga specialist!! On the plus side - I know where everything is - Usually it's at the bottom.....

1940s weekend on the NYMR steam railway. Was passing here anyway yesterday so rude not to stop. Levisham Station becomes "le Visham" apparently an Allo Allo themed occupied village and railway station. This is the only place German uniforms are widely seen. An Abundance of Anachronisms. You'd better have your papers ready. They had mug shots of wanted persons, one looked suspiciously like Donald Trump.

How can you possibly be "passing" Levisham, or indeed Levisham station unless on a train?
We had lunch at the pub there the week before last, and were lucky to get a seat (having not booked). The food was good (as usual) and they seem to be steadily increasing their number of bedrooms.
