The house in snow this afternoon The fire-ball has caught some snow, but not the obelisks, which are sheltered by the eaves of the house. This run and house are occupied by three middle aged bantam cocks: they certainly won't be out in the snow, so I suspect they're fossicking in the stable. They'll put themselves in the hutch bit of the run as it gets a bit darker. Whereas this run and house are occupied by one young bantam cock, and two hens from the same hatching. One (at least) of the hens is trying to lay and sit, so all of them are confined to their house and run for the moment. I don't think they've been out into the run much at all today.

Feeding sheep this afternoon. You can't see it but fine snow was coming down pretty heavy - but a sheltered spot by the river was not too bad. Video to follow shortly.

These have opened and enjoyed the sun today, but the milder weather around 10C the previous couple of day brought them on.

MF135 mudguards This has been wanting doing for several years, the replacements have been ready and waiting since ...2016 It's normally used almost every day in winter but bobcat can do critical areas in case of breakdown or repairs needed. The roll over bar proved annoying as it sandwiches the mounts and bolts were immovable due to 25 years in slurry. It is going back on though.

Not quite identical to my 35x, which is a year or two older, but very similar. For whatever reason, my mudguards are OK still, and original I think.

Mudguards fitted this morning so it can be used (cautiously) this afternoon. Footplates are being beefed up and are to fit another day but that's just a few small bolts really.

It has taken all day to achieve this rather slushy snow cover. The odd thing is it was often a little below freezing - but rather bright - so on dark surfaces it melted as it fell until just before it moved away.

These are the neighbour's Dextas today - it's quite a good shed but wasn't originally built for cattle so much as the previous owner's collection of mechanical toys. The pens are quite decent but already due for mucking out - which is a big problem as the doors are too narrow for a modern tractor, and about 20 feet away is the upmarket holiday let. A small trailer or spreader could be reversed in and loading done inside with a bobcat - I haven't mentioned I have one and she does mainly rely on friends from near previous small farm in Glaisdale not far away. This is the main house from the roadside, and holiday let is on the left. It's a very old house with a lot of listed features inside, even bizarre stuff like a rotten dado (?) rail - not allowed to touch. The bit of garden is always immaculate but rather too much tat stuck in all over - for visitors kids to point out and enjoy to be fair.

Some, in fact almost all, of my buildings don't have enough headroom for modern tractors or telehandlers, though they will take an MF35 or 135 with roll bar. Insufficient width seems very odd though.

I could have made that clearer, it's more turning in which would be too tight, and inside would be all but impossible to go in to muck out with a loader tractor due to semi-permanent clutter behind me in pic!

Ah yes. The ploughing brakes get full use when I do use my 35x for yard clearing, and it is a bit of a pain shuffling a few yards backwards and forward. I did hire a bobcat to do the clearing out quite a number of years ago, and it was a lot easier than the tractor: worth the hire fee for your neighbours I would guess.

Feeding sheep in the snow. Yes that is a hen, in fact there's about half a dozen always there. At first I though they were ranging ever further from the village but now I wonder if someone just tipped them out in the wood behind. They actually look quite well but won't be liking conditions just now.
