I understand that the BB's have been judged today and GenuineRisk has done rather better than she anticipated with her youngsters.

Many thanks all ! Starting to recover now but tired all the same...
Very, very proud of our heifers - Flirt and Felicity were the youngest in their class and only beaten by an older, very mature looking bull calf who belongs to some great friends of ours (he's down as being owned and bred by the Highridge Blues but in fact he and his dam, Bonnie are owned by George [-ina] and Bart, Bart used to work for Geoff and Lorraine Dunn, now works for Geoff's brother) and George was the one who handled our Elma to her good win at Cornwall last year, George's first time in the ring! So we were well chuffed with that!!
Then junior maiden heifer, fair number of entries, Phil handling Feisty, who was living up to her name. Bearing in mind for the young three, it was their first outing in the showring and Feisty was bug eyed !! Judge liked her, though and she won her class.
Then my turn with Empress, who we know full well is clumpy on the move - like most big birds!! Judges either lover her or loathe her, which is fair enough. This one liked her enough to go second in the biggest class of the day, losing out to a better walking heifer.
Then Female challenge and we were very surprised the Steward came back to ask us to take Flirtacious out, bearing in mind she's only eight months old but she was only beaten by the bull calf, of course. So out I go with her, as Phil was doing Feisty and was amazed at being asked to walk out behind the senior cow and heifers! Looked pretty silly to me but judge liked her lot but naturally she lacks any power at this age compared to the cows and senior heifer. Didn't go any further but he stopped and had a chat with me in the line up.
But what was really nice is that the judge obviously liked what he saw of our heifers and as Feisty, Flirt and Empress are all out of the same dam, I'd be pleased if I were judging and did the same. Never seen the judge before, apparently he was a top herdsman for many years on a Blue herd when they first came in and that was his comment about Flirt - that she was very like the original imports (not sure if that's a very good thing, tbh!!).
So very good show for us and the Blues did very well in the Interbreed competitions, Highridge winning the group of three and reserve with the pairs.
Tracy did a fab job looking after everything at home, two dry cows calved and, as usual, as soon as we'd unloaded, it was off to get the last calver in! Nothing changes, does it!?!?
It was lovely to see Rose, who also was in the ribbons and I know her show was made alot better by the good news of one of their key co exhibitors getting the right results from some hopsital tests, so cheering everyone up.

Was a very dirty show, but only owing to the fact we were in a marquee on the hard standing & as every where is bone dry it was extremely dusty. The lambs behaved extremely well except no 37 who was a bit of a handful for Thomas my young friend who was handling him, all classes were extremely strong with exceptional quality sheep, was thrilled that my shearling took 3rd in his class, with the 2 ram lambs taking 4th place in their classes, my one disappointment was my beautiful ewe lamb, according to the judge there was little to choose between first & last & she just didn't have the width on her back end that the others had, a lot depends I'm sure on the feeding, I'm sure she'll come good in the end though she is lovely .

Well done Jane - that should do your stock some good, Lynn!
Well, back from B & W and last two days soooo hot! Been there and back twice this evening, first bringing stock back and then going back to collect caravan - bushed now! Big clean up of said caravan high on agenda tomorrow.
Show very good as previously reported and many thanks for all the congrats - much appreciated. First off, have to be frank and say breed competition wasn't strong - one herd had pulled out that would have more than given us a run for our money and the other two were nice animals but only singles. No bulls present at all, which was a huge pity and I felt sorry for our judge who had come down all the way from Cumbria.
Anyhow, he was very pleased with our stock and they did look well, showed well and can't do more than that! So we did clean up but came out feeling a bit flat - didn't really want to get our first overall breed champion sash at a Royal like that!
However, what completely redeemed the situation was being eligible to take 25 month old Empress into the Interbreed Exhibitor Bred championship and standing second to the subsequent overall Interbreed Champion. A well-respected Blue judge was doing the Interbreed judging and our heifer was nothing to do with his breeding at all, so I didn't think she'd get a look in against the others, most of which were Breed Champions anyway and older. So when he tapped her forward into reserve ch Phil and I were gobsmacked ! That was a proper compliment and we really appreciated it. As you all will know, nothing beats getting a homebred award.
So lots of lovely rosettes, prize cards, Breed Champion Blue Society sash, a plaque for Reserve Exh bred Champion and a big silver cup plus some crystal, over £400 prize money, so we're well chuffed! Both judges came to see us in the lines after judging and took a good look at our stock. Both helped us considerably when we first started out in Blues and we owe them a great deal. Bloss was bred by Danny, the Interbreed judge and he was very pleased to see how she had turned out, as he sold her to us as a calf and kept her full sister. He reckons we've the better one!! Liked her calf, Geranium, as well. However, it was Felicity that really took his eye, being a daughter of another calf (Charlotte) he gave to us to replace the ill-fated non-breed Wee Lass. He really liked her and said he like to see her in a couple of year's time. Meanwhile, Charlotte at home was disgracing herself by not holding to her AI serice three weeks ago.. bitch!!
You simply can't beat the B & W for looking after their livestock entries, win, lose or draw - they are second to none and a few other shows would do well to follow their example.
Kids and I had a great time, Phil had to go home Wed evening and bale/wrap and spray and didn't get back til this morning but Pip, Rob and I showed our group of three in the interbreed and we did quite respectably but didn't go further as our group was not at all well-balanced!! Kids had a load of photos taken with Empress - nice to see how encouraged folk are by the number of youngsters showing cattle and sheep and pigs these days!
Royal Cornwall next week and then home time, as we've a some cows to calve!!
