In the days of BFF Off Topic there was a little chap called Biff, some of you may recall him and his visits to members around the country. When BFF called time on Off Topic and Farming Discussions rose like a phoenix from it's ashes, Biff was visiting a Journo and was blissfully unaware of what was happening. So when his visit was coming to an end he suddenly found himself lost and confused as to where all his friends had gone. It has taken him a little while to discover his way to Farming Discussions, so Joyce has taken pity on him and is allowing him to recover from the shock of being alone and bereft at her croft in Uist and we look forward to his news once more. He is still trying to learn and discover more about the rural and farming community so if you would like to host a visit from Biff please pm either Joyce or myself. You don't have to be farming, just interested in showing Biff around your place, allow him to report in regularly and then help him reach his next friend - he'll do most things for a free lunch ;D To be continued..................

He travels in a variety of ways, sometimes by air, sometimes on a boat but a lot of the time he uses the Post Office Community Buses ;D

I used all of those methods to get to Joyce's and was very tired when I arrived so just wanted to have a well earned rest. You'd have felt the same after a ferry crossing though fortunately the sea was quite calm. Next day a potter around in the garden was just the thing to bring the colour back into my cheeks I did offer to deadhead some of the flowers, but they looked quite alive when I looked from the top of the windbreak. A hop and a skip across the 'lawn' - that's a bit of an exaggeration - the description of the grass that is - not the hop and skip - I needed to do that to get over the bumps and a leap onto a piece of driftwood which Joyce had found on the beach many years ago - yeah looked that way too!! if there were woodpeckers here they'd have loved it all sorts of bugs hiding underneath its skin - the bark had long since disappeared. Once up there I could almost reach the foxgloves - don't know about gloves, more like mittens and as there are no foxes here I wondered if they were more suitable for the relatives of Mal's otter, so they became known as otter-mits. Now the thorny [pric kly wasn't allowed ] climb I had to get where I am in the next pic , you wouldn't believe. I wanted my photo taken sitting above the rosehips, but decorum got the better of me ;D

Strength restored after a porridge breakfast so a day to venture a bit further than the garden. How am I filling my time Jackladd ? - well here's the proof that I can and do work for my keep - cutting grass so the hens can find some food and we can get through the gate. Glad there's no snakes in the grass here The strimmer was a bit heavy for me, so I left the bodach to it and volunteered to rake and barrow, here I am taking a short break from where I could watch those giant cockerels in safety - Tweedledum and Tweedledee can be a bit mischievous to the unwary The Tweedles Those Buffs are giants, I feel safer up here At least their wives .....lay some fine eggs, but didn't seem to be in the mood much today - must go and search for some more else supper will be a light one! Nice to meet up again Jackladd and hope I can visit you later on, I'm booked up for the next week

' evening all A day around the sheep today, note blue sky Fatboy and Rudolf thought that 2 people meant trouble so didn't stick around They were both bottle fed because Fatboy's mother was killed on the road and Rudolph's mother didn't want 2 lambs. Rudolph was like a little rabbit and could escape from anywhere because he was so small and lively. They certainly don't seem very happy to see me, and Joyce had camera shake from laughing - at least that was the excuse given This lot seem tamer "Sixy" - the big ewe has her own twins here and has nannied the other 2 who's mother became ill when they were 5 weeks old. Sixy was also a bottle fed lamb and has now had 9 of her own. People mean extra food is nearby [you'd think there was enough grass] so no reason to run away Bessie and I got on great around them, she was very well behaved for me and went under the gate while I went over the top:

Hello Biff,
Welcome to the forum and it's great to hear from you. I think i missed your adventures on BFF to my chagrin.
It looks like you are having a great time in Jockland and are offering Joyce some assistance with the croft.
I personally would be more than happy to take you on for a few days once Harvest is out the way and we can see straight again.
I'll contact Admins once you are ready for your next move (the one after Joyce clearly)

Gone Fishing! That notice used to be put on the door of the doctor's surgery once upon a time before NHS 24 No mobile phones in those days either and probably lots of places still without any reception! Phew - that was a long walk, needed a sitdown Just checking how Bessie felt for her header photo I'm reliably told that the heather is not putting on such a good show this year Thought I might catch a tiddler in here This is better loch - now if I can get over this fence...... Update Biff asked me to post this tonight as he's gone down the pub to bemoan the one that got away, no doubt plenty of yarning in the Anglers' Lounge I'll pass on your message Mal

A pack-your-own day, today, or so I thought - Joyce had other ideas I was shocked by the number of packing boxes collected ready for the likely house move - who needs all this stuff and threw up my hands in horror when it was suggested I might help tape up the boxes - Fragile? I said - yes I am after last night in the pub so out I went for a walk - well those pesky midges and the rain - just had to shelter for a while - quite cosy in this cave Now to say goodbye to the shed cats - this one looks a bit dangerous to a person of my size but this one realises I'm boss or is he being rude No I wasn't nicely scented for my plane trip south later, though it might have helped me get through the search area a bit quicker than I expect to ;D Hope I get met in the big city by someone with a satnav ;D I don't want to get lost finding my way back out to the countryside. Off to catch the plane, see you all in a couple of days

Hi Heather, I'm feeling very well after a nice lay in this morning. A trip to the market sounds really good thankyou, I'll look forward to it. I arrived at Gatwick quite early. Lynn and her o/h did an eight mile detour on route to Edenbridge and Oxted show to pick me up. Whilst o/h went back to the farm with my suitcases, I accompanied Lynn to the show . First stop...breakfast in the Stockman's tent. Yum it was too, sausage, bacon, mushrooms, egg and baked beans all washed down with a cup of coffee . Then a brief look round the showground, I decided to have a closer inspection of a John Deere Whilst round at the flower tent I decided to get a better view of the showground, so clambered up on one of the signs.... We then went back to the cattle shed and I was given the job of sorting things from the kit box. I got to sit a bit between jobs ;D By mid afternoon I was flagging a little so I volunteered to sit in the chair and keep an eye on the heifers while everyone else packed up. Today's another day and I'll investigate Lynn's place later.

Glad all went well on the journey Biff - it is certainly a very long distance to travel It was fun having you here, despite the fact you did a runner when packing was mentioned Don't think Lynn will be so soft on you ;D

Thank you Joyce, I thoroughly enjoyed myself and yes it was a long journey After a nice long lie in...just to get over the combined effects of the long journey from Uist followed immediately by the show, I made up my mind to explore a little. "I thought you were complaining you had no grass" You were right about the flies though, they seem to like my cap Chilling out with the old girl in the evening

I've dragged myself out of bed this morning and it feels like the middle of the night, I really don't know how Lynn does this day in day out as I would much rather still be tucked up and fast asleep O well, here is yesterday's diary: Well, I certainly wasn't going to get away with loafing around today, Lynn had a whole heap of jobs lined up for me "Well, I've got control of the smirking tractor.....but I think the pedals need a bit of adaption." Straw needed stacking Postscript from Lynn: Ssssshhhhhh......and so to bed, too exhausted to even take off his cap I hope that fly isn't still on it
