Can't you put the poor chicken in a box in the house for the night? You might have to sneak up on it after dark If not, try feeding it somewhere it can be caught tomorrow if it survives tonight. It's not funny when you can't protect your own livestock from roaming vermin as we found out when we had a local rogue otter.

It was roosting in the hedge last night so we grabbed it and put it in the garden shed where it's more secure. In the meantime will have to reinforce the coup with some strong 5 ply wood cladding on the outside. Many of these domestic coops you can buy from pet shops etc are very flimsy, 5mm T & G cladding, no deterent to a determined predator.

If I decide to keep any poultry when we move to the mainland I think I'm going to treat myself and 2/3 birds to an egloo. Have you seen one of those in real life? They look pretty secure and easy to clean, though expensive. Hope they'd be predator proof and would give my dogs hours of pleasure just watching.
