It does look quite a good idea for a short run, and reasonable price. You'd not want anything very long or bulky as it would fill up in no time.

What does it weigh? If it's too heavy you won't want to be holding it up for too long, particularly if it's collecting the clippings as well.

That is a most important point, and I don't see myself how it can be anything but rather heavy. I'd buy a polytarp, cut it into two or maybe three strips, and lay them down by the hedge to collect the clippings. Seam the edges if you're a dab hand with a sewing machine by all means, but the plain cut edge is not bad, and shouldn't fray. Standard electric hedge trimmers are fine, but if the hedge is over about 4' tall, I would seriously consider getting a pole mounted one. I know I have a lot more length to do, but getting a hedge trimming head to go on my Tanaka brushcutter was one of the best buys I've ever made. The weight goes onto a shoulder strap, and your arms never have to be fully raised, which means I can do well over 1/4 mile of hedge (both sides) in a day now, and not be knackered at the end of it.

Thanks for the replies. One ad says weight is 3.5Kg.... I wasn't thinking of using it myself as I have an OH still about Hedge is probably 4'+ and has been cut straight and then tapered to a point. The tarp idea I have considered as it was mostly leaves to clear up. I'll pass on your replies to OH

I think it's a gimmick. Or not.

edging shears with a grass catcher on one blade is another idea that isn't practical

OH did buy the GardenGroom with the 500W motor - and - it works!OK the hedge in question is well trimmed privet, about 30 feet of it, over 4 feet tall, but machine and OH have made a good job of it. First time OH has had a hedge to trim ;D There is an extension collection bag and pick up was not bad, at least nothing to go round afterwards for. After he'd used machine OH watched the instruction video - I only heard it while eating my lunch and I'm afraid my imagination was having fun!
