this is just a test post to try out my new software - Dragon naturallyspeaking . I have sorted out the different punctuation that I have to put in, but have yet to work out how to start a sentence with a capital letter. although I have to use the keyboard to start programs at the moment I think there are ways of doing it through the program. Obviously as I am a bloke I have no intention of reading the manual though. (Smiley's as well apparently) I also think that you are able to direct the mouse with the program but rather than spend the whole morning on here I guess I should get on with some other jobs while the weather is good. This may take some getting used to but I think will definitely help me in writing letters. Does anybody else have this program or ever used it?

Is this voice recognition software? I did have a spell trying to use voice recognition on an android phone and tablet (it comes with it) but honestly by the time you corrected the hilariously incorrect phrases it invented, it was much quicker to just type. Especially if I forgot to minimise any Yorkshire accent

I Have ViaVoice software somewhere. Not on pc at the moment. Have to admit I gave up on it before giving it a fair shot, but as my typing is done with index finger of left hand, maybe I should reload it and give it another go. Most reports I've heard say Dragon is the best. I thought there was voice recog of some sort built into Windows, could be wrong ,usually am. ;D

yes this is the voice recognition software.
I had to set it up by reading quite a few paragraphs. It seems to cope with my accent. Probably it is best used to just write letters but it probably does far more than I know about yet.
I first heard about it from a friend who uses it at university and is very impressed with it. I thought perhaps it may give me the impetus to get my quotations out a little bit quicker.
I have voice search on my HTC mobile, which is usually only successful when using Wi-Fi at home - and often produces some funny results.

Yes, my sister used it for a time when she was paralysed with Guillaume Barre Syndrome. It did its stuff, but then she had all the time in the world to make it work. As soon as any feeling came back to her fingers she reverted to typing. I have never heard of anyone using it seriously because of the shortcomings.

I'm typing this using the Dragon software and it seems to work well for me, although I don't have much letter writing to do lately. I guess that the later the version, the better it must be as things like this seem to improve all the time. The same goes for the quality of the microphones etc that go hand in hand with the programme. I think that I could easily get used to using the software and if I had to do a lot more letters I would learn more of the shortcuts etc. I'm surprised that it can cope with my accent to be honest.
