A year is quite a lot, I would think some would be more OK than others? it will depend how near ideal storage was. If it was 2 or 3 months almost sure to be OK. I would try one or two cautiously...

Don't be to cautious... cautious means slow and at this stage - every second counts. As 4wd says.... I think it will depend how they have been stored. If refrigerated or frozen without containment, chocolate can absorb enough moisture to cause a whitish discoloration, the result of fat or sugar crystals rising to the surface. Moving chocolate from one temperature extreme to another, such as from a refrigerator on a hot day, can result in an oily texture. Although visually unappealing, chocolate suffering from bloom is perfectly safe for consumption.

If you're not sure, tape the lid back on and give them to a raffle. I won a box of chocs like that once. They were nearly 2 years out of date and were white with age

They were nearly 2 years out of date and were white with age I gave a 2 wks out of date box of shortbread to a Yfc tombola last year (pealed the sticker off ) My Dad won it & I felt obliged to confess! ;D Btw. All the Roses have been eaten ... & as you'll have realised - we're still alive! Phew!
