Now that the grass cutting season is actually here, I just wondered how you cut your lawns.... (not your fields) For purposes of the poll, currently three options on a nice rectangular lawn.... I usually use the second choice but sometimes at my mums (who lives in a nice little cul-de-sac) I will often change my 'route' with the mower just to amuse myself such as cutting diagonally or I have even started in the middle and worked my way out to the edges by just going round and round.... I suspect this would have irritated certain individuals who seem to think that there is a 'right' way to do things and a 'wrong' way... Or you may be like my mate who was cutting as per the third choice when I turned up one day and looked as if he was hoovering up - to be fair though 1) It's quite a small lawn.... and 2) he's a hairdresser (thereby not expected to do 'blokey' stuff' properly.

Some times round n round, sometimes as the 2nd sketch, but then I often mow our fields round and round especially for hay where we always worked round &round with the haybob.

That poll needs another option Grass = fodder (whether it's round the house or not).......sheep are on it........will scrape the sh*t off the paths when they've done their job Plus it is saving me an enormous amount of time mowing it.

Next thread idea....
Guess the forum member from the conversation.
A quick example:-
'Blimey [insert name here] your grass is a bit long. Has your mower broken down?'
'No.... I've eaten it'
'Sorry.... I missed what you said.... I went ar*e over t*t on your path.....'

Missed this little gem, but can still comment ;D Question assumes a square lawn? Mine are all shapes and sizes so I tend to do edges, and around fiddly bits, trees and beds and then up / down the rest. I also alternate the up/down with across - or try to. If OH did them regularly we'd end up with a small bit in the middle, cos he never does the edges. Leaves them for a hair cut another day. Love the tech drawings btw.

Really, lawns of all shapes and sizes are just a series of different sized squares.... However.... So you would have voted 'Completely randomly' which has now cast doubt on the validity of the entire poll and ultimately the future of Farming Forums worldwide. In the long term, this shock late date comment may be the downfall of the internet as we know it.... Who would have thought it?
