The owners of this house at the top of the village are on a world cruise, and I'm supposed to keep an eye on the heating which is on 18C for two hours early and late. It felt warm enough inside but a bit worrying as it's very exposed, and I aren't there at 4am Hopefully everything in the loft or whatever is insulated well enough. They are back on the 10th it ought to be better by then.

This one 100 yards along the road is halfway through a major revamp in fact some of it was structurally unsound and needed rebuilding. I was lifting stuff round the back for the work (with tractor) in the summer and warned them the snow can be a problem as it's sunk into a cut out and it drifts up the fields behind like crazy in an east wind. In 1978 previous owners had to dig a tunnel through to the road as it was up to the eaves. They only bought it a coupe of year ago and looked at me like I was a bit mad. My feeling is they will finish the work and sell it anyway.

This is the most exposed house in the village this afternoon, where the car is parked is the normal way in but it's five feet deep and they are climbing over the wall with a stepladder to get in and out. They have just finished struggling through 'Back Lane' - left till last as you can go round. They've had to open two field gates and push snow out onto the fields. This is right by my sheep field gate but the gate itself has not ben blocked it's just behind. These are the neighbour's sheep and got very excited when they saw me. They did have a bit of hay left in the feeder but I was surprised he hadn't been to them.

Ravenswick redevelopment. There was a large late Victorian villa-style house here and across the road a farmyard and walled garden. It had not been lived in for a number of years and was getting increasingly decrepit. Plans were passed to demolish and rebuild a substantial new house which is now taking shape. A huge amount of earth has been piled up just to create the site. The farmyard has gone and is a materials and plant storage area. The walled garden is retained but also storage for materials at present. This is the offices and canteen presumably - gives an idea of how many are working there. ravenswickhall.com/More good photos here (not mine) www.flickr.com/photos/36451417@N02/sets/72157654881181933/

Yup. The bigger ones are flat. Only the old fashioned short stemmed ones keep upright.

Yup. The bigger ones are flat. Only the old fashioned short stemmed ones keep upright. Ours behave similarly (no surprise). It's also remarkable how often the bent-over ones do come up again given 2 or 3 days. What does surprise me is how bad crocuses look after a snow covering has gone, given that most of us associate crocuses with at least occasional snow.

Stokesley High Street today. It often seems like there's only about a dozen parking places. The sun brought people out and for the first time in weeks a coat was barely required.

Not the most exciting shot but look at the sky So nice after weeks of cold and grey. It's coming back from Whitby, they were trying to clear what looked like a regular land drain where it goes under the busy A171. The lights were causing quite a tailback which wouldn't be going down too well when they weren't actually working in the road - just one little truck parked there.
