Fir Tree House. RGSP will know the prominent tree is not a fir, but to be fair there are two *possible* firs in the paddock. It had another name before the Pine became dominant though. It would have been planted in the 1920s same time as our little plantation across the road. Until about 1990 an elderly widow lived there alone, she and her husband got married after WW1 and wished to find a cottage away from the world and live a simple life. They took a train to Middlesbrough then walked over the moors to the house, having bought it unseen for about £100. Everything they owned they carried with them. When she eventually died the house was like a time capsule in 1930s style but immaculately kept. They never had power or phone put in. Every Monday at crack of dawn the wash-house chimney would be smoking and lines of washing out later.

Wall and beyond. Like many more things, when you look closely the detail and texture is more interesting than you'd think.

Low Mills in Farndale. It's very pretty but practically deserted.

Just about holding it together, but the blank windows and peeling paint show this pretty former farmhouse and cottage have been bought for 'development' then abandoned for now. Farndale again.
