It's annoying what idiots have done to the lovely old door but I thought this was interesting, it's outside Crown Court in Bristol where photography (inside) is not permitted but they have artist allowed to show the scene we have probably all seen these on TV or papers. She is doing more detail to the sketches she made inside. The Courtroom Sketch Artist by Bristol Streets, on Flickr The Courtroom Sketch Artist by Bristol Streets, on Flickr

A work by Andy Goldsworthy, if you have any interest in dry stone walling you might have heard of him but he has been very prolific with these works using natural materials in strange ways. (Worth googling) There is an on-going trail of several being done in Rosedale funded by our local branson-esque billionaire about half are completed but they are only viewable on certain days. This one is in Provence I think.

Very impressive flowers, but I'm not sure I want them either in my house or garden.

One of mine from May 2006, it's at Harome which is near Helmsley. There's a quite small area just to the east of Helmsley very well endowed with these chocolate box thatched cottages I think Pockley just to the north has most. The National Park doesn't have many because a lot of original thatch was heather and needed a very steep pitch they have nearly all been converted to tiles when they became available from Holland. They usually reduced the roof pitch by raising the walls to create a proper upstairs or gain more headroom upstairs. I suppose the most likely reason for this pocket of survivors is it they would have been estate houses and the owner disapproved of rebuilding or was too mean! If that was nearby Duncombe House they wouldn't have been short of funds. Anyway they are now very desirable and certainly attractive but pleased I don't live in one.
