The quality is only so-so because it's a gopro video screengrab! But a lovely spot with autumn colour. I meant to go back with proper camera last year but it was last week of October and the leaves were soon off after that - must be getting close this year as they are turning earlier for some reason.

Thanks from me as well to 4WD for the banners.
The present one is delightful: plenty of character. I think I can remember what the "after" photos look like, and no doubt they're very lovely, but inevitably a lot of the character of somewhere like that is lost via renovations - not that I'm blaming Heather P. It probably needed doing.

Super Aug banner, 4wd, - is it your field in the foreground?

Super Aug banner, 4wd, - is it your field in the foreground? Yes it is supposed to be a red clover ley, but due to being so dry the ryegrass has only just started growing, whereas the clover must be more tolerant and has been much less affected - so is much more dominant than usual. I hope the ryegrass will bulk up through it to make a more 'normal' second cut silage by mid-month.

Red clover doesn't much like our soil and climate here, and by my standards that looks a lovely field of the stuff. Some of the white clovers do very well here though.

It's rather short-lived here too and decines steadily after year three, however avoiding too much Nitrogen and supplying ample slurry helps it last longer. If left to get too old it can get rather woody but is still acceptable when wrapped as silage bales.

Red clover has to be treated as an annual normally here: you're very lucky if it comes back well in the 2nd year, and it's by no means guaranteed to do well even in the first year. However, that varies a great deal from place to place as the soil varies. The Bungay series clays around here LOOK fairly uniform, but their levels of minor and trace elements vary wildly.

I went judging crops and leys for a local show yesterday and could only dream of seeing a ley like that this year. Beautiful photo.
