Hi,
just joined the forum yesterday..
I am looking to obtain permission for myself and my partner to detect on any farmland within roughly a 30 mile radius of Doncaster, South Yorkshire. We are thinking of South Yorks /East Yorks /North Yorks /West Yorks / Notts areas..
I am 46 my senior-detecting partner is 62 and is the sole driver. We have been detecting together on a weekly basis (usually a Sunday) mainly travelling to east yorks for four and a half years now.
We have permission with a number of farmers in this area. Though now we are currently looking for more land as finds are on the decline and we're finding new permission hard to obtain.. this being due to nearby land being either council owned, tenant land owners or detectorist's already having been given permission..
Whilst searching together we have managed to locate two small hoards, which were reported, and went through the treasure procedure and the farmers concerned received a 50% share of the valuation. The biggest find, 30 medieval coins were declared treasure and purchased by Beverley Treasure house museum where they are currently on display there.
We always offer to share 50/50 any monetary value with the landowner if there are non-reportable items of value found. Other non-valuable finds can also be shown, if you have an interest in the items being found on your land.
Both of us are members of the "Federation of Independent Detectorists" meaning that we are both covered for Public Liability insurance to the amount of £5 million, in the unlikely event of an accident or damage being caused.
If there's any landowners who are willing to consider allowing us permission we can arrange to call and see you personally before a final decision be made.
We are aware that a lot of land has now been re-sown and don't expect to go on seeded fields, but we would be interested in any set aside or available pasture once animals have been taken in for winter..
please pm or email if you can help us..
thanks,
Darren
