This shrubby tree must have come with a load of farm suitable mixed hedging - please can someone ID it?

Bird Cherry, unusual in the southern half of the UK en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prunus_padusWe used to call them wild lilac as they don't look very cherry-like - but do have a small dark fruit like a cherry.

Thanks, 4wd - I thought the leaves looked Prunus-like but the flowers had me stumped - and I couldn't remember fruit last year. Yes flowers definitely lilac-like. Tried the RHS site, but obviously not carefully enough

We had to cut one down on Thursday as it was about to fall onto the road and it measured just over 60 feet in length. We have quite a lot of them around here and at this time of year they are a real picture and smell wonderful.
