Signs like this have been sprouting lately - can't see them lasting long. It must be difficult for drivers to see the cheap red board style ones which have been used for years - or the sheep themselves Attachments:

Those solar panels are worth several hundred apiece, easy to nab. Are they cautioning the sheep or the drivers ?

I'm on the moors which are near the coast at Whitby - similar area though. What annoys me with these new signs is the alternately show sheep in triangle and 'Slow Down' text - and do this even if you are going less than 30mph. I shall have to check if there's an upper limit when out on bike - but at 100mph plus you would be past it before it had time to flash anyway....

SIDs (Speed Indication Devices) do not "fire" with a speed over 50 in a 30 the fire with ==. The speed sensors in these types of signs do not "fire" at above 70 and speed camera dont work at past 155. Hope that helps. VASCAR and Speed guns however do work at speeds upto (and including) 175

Northern Echo story" These are the latest efforts by the park authority with the county council, police and farmers to slow drivers and save the sheep.
Councillor John Fort, the county’s executive member for highways said: "The council welcomes the installation as a help to our farming community.
"It may also reduce the possibility of road accidents and collisions that could lead to injury or death for motorists or walkers."

While you're never going to be able to stop suicidal sheep, and the odd suicidal driver, it would be interesting to hear if these signs have any measurable effect - assuming they last long enough to measure anything. They might last a bit, given that there's nowhere to hide for miles if another vehicle comes along while our Pikey friend is adjusting the solar panel.
