A big thank you to the farmer in Retford for allowing us to dig this weekend. we unearthed several items this pair being among them we don't yet know what they are so if any one has any idea we would love to hear from you. the dig was close to a Roman Settlement so who knows!

A excellent. But what are they then some sort of tools! I'm quite new to it to be honest, So forgive for asking are you a farmer and a detectorist? Fantastic about your son and the roman coins. What were they, could you post a picture for me, to have a look. My only roman coin was the one I posted, but I'm really proud of it ha. Where you based then as in county. Most of the farms I visit are in Lincoln, seem to struggle getting permissions in Nottingham or Worksop where I live. I am pleased your a detectorist and your son, I was beginning to think I was the only one on this site. Do you do it on your own land or are you members of a club! Suppose if it's your land it's a winner all round eh. Thanks for replying to me I do appreciate it, when your passionate about something you like to talk about it and share it. Kind regards Rob

Hello Robin. I'm a farmer and my sons do a bit of detecting on our land if they have time. Been looking through the photos on the computer and can only find this one coin which Lew found. although he's found a few others also - big bronze ones. This is a silver denarius which was minted in Rome during the reign of Hadrian. Lew took it to our local museum who sent it to be identified and logged before handing it back. We are in Breconshire and have a Roman road running through the farm to Y Gaer, Roman fort. They also find a lot of lead musket balls around certain fields where I've been told the militia used to have targets many years ago.

Wow, roman road running through your fields, I can only drool ha ha. That's a great coin, yes the PAS want my coin so I'll be sending it to them. It's great they can detect on such great land. I'd be interested in anything they find, swop story's etc. yes Hadrian took the name of his cousin, Trajan, the coin I found was Trajan, really Hadrian. I found a William 4th half penny yesterday. Well I'm bugging farmers all over Nottingham and Worksop ha for permission, but so far to no avail, but being the determined bugger I am I'll persist ha. It's really good to see someone else into history. And finding such great coins. Keep in touch and let me see what else your lads find. I found a few musket balls to. Cheers Rob.
