Big thanks to Retford farmers for allowing me to detect on there land. So what was in there fields, well first Emperor Claudius, this coin is about 1890 years old, then along came Henry the third, about 700 years old. Then a collection of items my best being the cow bell, medieval and still working!! whats in your field? If you want to know PM. Me. Thanks everyone.     |

Isn't that little ball-type bell rather small for a cow?
The local group found a similar one here but flattened and wondered if it might have been on a milking goat.
They could also have had several on horse harness I suspect.
I wouldn't be surprised if they might have been attached to very young children's clothes too.

yes indeed it could, this was a bit flat to when I found it but I managed to repair it. I think it's just a generic name for this type of bell and not actually for a 'cow' I don't think they name each potential animal it could be. For, (I. May be wrong on that ha) and yes it was probably look stupid on a cow!
i really like the bell, it's got character all of its own. It's amazing what is in the ground, and to think we have walked over these things for hundreds of years, hundreds of years they have laid there un detected. It's fascinating. My friend found a Saxon horse mount with a fan static face mask picture on it, out standing.
Today in Lincoln the group found about twenty different hammered coins and one gold one in three fields!!
i suppose to the history buff it's exciting ha.

I think the one found here was pewter is that lead and tin?
Anyway relatively soft so I guess they are usually flat after being buried!
