and surprisingly you weren't alone! Did I spot snow-depth markers?

I don't think you saw snow poles in this Joyce, there are various other things like footpath markers and ancient stone boundary posts to mark Rosedale/Farndale Moor. Some of the roads do have tall posts useful to guide the snowploughs when it's in full ground blizzard mode perhaps. Mind the ones I'm mainly thinking of were originally telegraph poles which became redundant when the cable was undergrounded but they decided to just cut them off half way down!
I was mainly testing out a new GoPro camera I bought last week, what impressed me apart from ability to do 4K video is the dynamic range - how it manages to expose a nice frame even with the sun in shot - try that with most cameras and it just don't work. The colours are good too but to be honest I now more or less sort out colour balance on the PC when editing. That's another nice thing about the GoPro, it will shoot in a sort of RAW mode which is very responsive to colour grading afterwards with good software. Just uploaded another from the route home when the sun had set in the valley - this low light footage would have been unusable from my previous budget cam (SJ4000)
