It is bleak but has its own wild beauty. The views are from my garden looking southwards over my croft and those of my neighbours either side. Part of he croft to the right has reverted back to moorland. The one to the left is grazed by sheep and used to have cattle. You can make out new deer-proof fencing ready for tree planting in March. No point in asking anything for the croft if no-one has any money! Here's some of my trees Attachments:

Neither were taken today, which has been depressingly wet.

Lovely Lynn. I do love the ethereal beauty of low mist.

I'm surprised you can grow horse chestnut (even small ones!), they struggle here because the leaves are relatively lush and often get shredded by wind soon after opening. It does look to be in quite a sheltered spot

The horse chestnut is on the side of a small hill and took about 15 years to grow to 3 feet, then last year it took off. It was supposed to be moved as it's too near a bird cherry - you can just see the blossom ..... but it's roots are probably too wedged under the rocks now. That leafy pic was taken before the trees got a blast in June which denuded a lot of them. I reckon most only had about 2 months of green leaf time last summer which certainly Bonsai's them! There's another 2 HC's in my garden, one in the middle of rosa rugosa and the other surrounded by willow.... ways and means
