These went out yesterday, they have loads of grass in this first field it romped away since rain last week - but not that good elsewhere yet. You can see on the bankside opposite how some areas have hardly started to grow yet. Over there like some of mine he does have eleventy million rabbits

Similar view of Fryup, so much detail in the background for a small picture file size. It is not that surprising someone thought it worthwhile to try enclose slightly better areas with walls, but the style of them suggests it was done relatively recently like late 1800s Most of what is shown is now open access moorland so can walk anywhere, in practice far better to stay mainly on quad bike tracks as it really tough going even before bracken gets waist high. I have seen plenty of adders (and Ticks) about too though none the other day.

Not the most exciting subject but this is one of only two (known) small clumps of Petty (petite?) Whin in North Yorks Wihipedia doesn't think itgrows here - en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Genista_anglicaA sort of dwarf broom about the height of heather is all it manages and has the look of a vetch in the leaves

Low level drone shot late yesterday - Fryup with lovely light briefly The wall is well built and well maintained, not least because there's a 50ft cliff among that line of trees. T'other way What looks like a quarried area is mainly instability and landslips after the last ice age - no doubt some stone was removed from exposed rock faces but it is a difficult area to access with any kind of vehicle.

Ellerburn Banks this evening. Bladder Campion? Wild Columbine Some pink ones might be Common Spotted? These were very numerous and range from white to very dark pink. Might be Southern Marsh orchid. The stars of the show - first time I saw any there. Bee Orchids. And Fly orchids. These are really small and hard to see among grass, but once you get your eye in it gets easier.

Old Ralph on one of the highest points of the moors about 200m west of modern road. Looking south, there is low cloud off the Sea making its way inland
