Steampunks last weekend, it is all delightfully silly and eccentric - harmless fun.

This rambling pub/hotel/inn has been empty three years at least and only occupied for six months or so since a previous vacant period - so not looking promising. The brewery own it and wanted £3k/monthly in 2018. They will be insuring it so maybe the most profitable option will be for it to spontaneously combust in mysterious circumstances. It is more or less weathertight but I noticed various minor problems with roof/guttering and downpipes. Inside tables are still laid with salt and pepper and glasses behind the bar, but if you look closely a lot of surfaces are mouldy.

I went up to the cross hub at sunset (it's only two miles) and got this. There is a tradition to leave a coin on top in case whoever next passes is destitute and needs it. Back in the 70s we used to regularly stop at the taller one by road and check, it's a lot taller to shin up so were not happy unless at least 50p was 'earned' That was not unusual and in those days a pint of beer was less than £1 Heather is still really good but not the best location for it up there. Unlike many of the crosses this is off the beaten track and probably less than 100 a year get close to it. About 1000ft from the road and 60ft higher

A lucky drone shot with shaft of sun hitting the village on a largely cloudy day - Hutton le Hole with moors in bloom behind.

Walked past this pretty place a couple of hours ago. The Mill at Lowna near Gillamoor. It has been tarted up but I am not convinced anyone lives there eit may be a holiday let. The back looks like this ...
