At the end of the day it is his site.
Sometimes he's right, sometimes wrong, sometimes he's rather in between! He pays the running costs and so far as I know the advertisers don't cover them.
When the hassle factor got to overload levels a while back my guess is it came very close to total switch off time.
BFF has continuously evolved since it started and no doubt will this will continue.
It is run primarily as a service, not a business and even though it may not always be apparent why changes are made they aren't made without a pressing reason.

"I think this is Off Topic too, and the internet is the last place to look for advice on these sort of issues..... say no more.
But good luck"Looks to me like it was Blues decision to lock this topic. I really dont get his last comment. Lots of people get help on the internet, for some people it might be their ONLY form of assistance. The Max Clifford style spin doctoring is wearing thin though. As I see it the potential problems occur when topics are on a more "personal level", ie. not about Agric topics - machinery, Sfp cheques, mycotoxin risks, etc.
People ask for advice about a "personal problem" - giving a little background ... & off we go!Members, with the very best of intentions want of course to help & offer up their advice & experiences. Mostly these are constructive ... however some can be critical & especially of topics like illnesses these are not well received by everyone. Meanwhile we've all added a bit more information (judgement) to that 'picture' we build in our minds of all these people & react accordingly to them in the future - not just on Off Topic, but spilling onto the other (more serious) boards. It is this "personal" slant that on the whole causes the agro, the upsets, the arguments & the falling outs. Judgements are made about people from the minutest of information, based on the little bit of information that a person has posted ... & a bit more from reading between the lines. Whether that judgement is true or not, we just don't know! I would think that it is all those things a person hasn't said - but this & BFF are just internet forums & so why should they - that would give us a little better idea of the 'whole' person behind the username. The snide comments & petty bickering don't make for pleasant reading & put people off asking a question & offering up an opinion. They detract from the serious business of "agricultural discussion". IMHO. This issue, along with the strong & emotional reactions produced by discussions on politics & religion was spoiling the excellent platform we have on BFF for "agricultural discussion". The separation of Off Topic discussions onto here will hopefully mean that there isn't such the 'link' between the more 'personal', political, religious, & fantastically funny off topics on here & the agricultural comments, opinions & discussions on BFF. Having made the decision for BFF to revert back to "agric topics only" then there is really no option but to be fairly strict about topics ... or what is the point of making the decision in the first place. It does seem as if Blue is making a very strict stance on this however if excuses were made for one topic there will soon be arguments as to why "it" was allowed & not others, etc, etc ..... and it would soon be on the slippery slope back down to where it ended up before! It was disappointing that there had to be a "damage limitation" & ditch Off Topic but I feel that it can only be for the better. All IMHO.

Surely if you water the vine it will recover ?
There needs to be more input to make this a place that people want to go to. Members who are posting need others to reply, its a lot easier to do than starting the thread

Thanks spike, some of us have been working our proverbial nuts off to try and make the best of a bad job, even though we're not particularly happy about what's gone on and where we are. It's either that or lose contact with a lot of the people we have become accustomed to and liked on bff and I for one don't want that to happen.

think the mods use the stupid excuse of "something more going on behind the sences to hide behind" as was said above i cant imagine an offensive PM being sent to anyone that commented on the depression thread I agree, I don't understand why that thread was locked. The mods do seem to have been unnecessarily draconian lately.
