I stand by what the admin have done on BFF with Off Topic - doesn't seem to have harmed it too much. But I think closing the topic The Village Idiot started regarding his own depression is pretty low. All we hear is how farmers should join together and talk about their problems so as not to overwhelm them and end up very badly.

I think Blue chose the moment when he came back and responded to the comments made.
As always you never really know what else went on behind the scenes by PM. Maybe the morning after things seemed different.

Sorry Vicki, I think the whole shabang stinks. Off Topic was somewhere you felt supported when times were tough, removing it took some peoples life rafts from under them. Odd that it seems to be the livestock sector that used it most and hey guess what the livestock section has now been renamed. It seems BFF caters mainly for the arable section .

Blue has a tough job and I wouldn't want to do it, so I shouldn't complain, but referring to the Depression thread as Off Topic was wrong IMO. These days many farmers (and other members) do have problems due to the stress of their job/s so seeing positive stories from others who have overcome the illness helps to give them direction. A very nice BFF member recently went through very difficult times, and I am sure he would say that the support from BFF members was vitally important to him. Thankfully Blue has only locked the thread and not deleted it altogether, so members concerned can still PM each other if they like.

Blue has a tough job and I wouldn't want to do it....... So perhaps he ought to have looked for a bit of help with it. I mod on another forum (or rather, for various sections of that forum) and run (set-up, run, admin and mod) another forum for a motorcycle club my son used to ride with. Yes it can be a thankless task but somebody has to do it and different mods have different ideas. Different sections of a forum, imo, need different mods to deal with the various topics that arise and usually a mod ought to have some expertise in that particular area in order to 'mod' the forum correctly. Off Topic was treated as a dumping ground for any threads that went.... er.... 'off topic'... Not a correct decision in my humble opinion - which is why the OT forum seemed to be blamed. I for one would have been happy to help out in my specialist area.... posting nonsense in OT It has been such a shame to view BFF for me lately.... I often want to reply in various threads with a quip or slightly 'off the line' comment - but don't want to for fear of being slapped on the wrist for doing so..... I do feel the BFF has lost a bit of its edge in losing Off Topic which is a great shame. Ok, so why don't I post in here so much? Well, it's yet another forum I have to view, find my way around and keep an eye on... and really I just don't want to spend my whole life on the internet checking the different forums I visit. BFF as it was, covered the whole spectrum. It is suffering since the loss of Off Topic in my view.

I don't want to lose the 'friends' I've made but I find my heart's no longer in it. The old BFF was the one-stop-shop. I'm giving it time but finding the new BFF coming up short. I, too, would have been happy to help had there been any inkling of what might have been the other option.

Couldn't agree more with what has been said, its ruined BFF for me, I also don't post now for fear of being off the mark a little. It was such a fun place to visit and make friends. I know several of us are still in touch on here and facebook but its such a pain having to keep checking so many sites.

To be honest I don't think the village idiot's thread could have been much more on topic.
I'm not putting myself forward to help admin so maybe I should keep my mouth shut, however It seems to me the admin over there are making a mountain of work for themselves at the moment and probably putting an end to a once good forum.

Depression is huge problem within the agricultural industry, with most farmers being so isolated. There was nothing Off Topic in that thread and and in fact had some very good replies . If something was going on behind the scenes its very difficult to imagine what it could be

think the mods use the stupid excuse of "something more going on behind the sences to hide behind" as was said above i cant imagine an offensive PM being sent to anyone that commented on the depression thread

No, I meant maybe the original poster felt he'd rather end the thread there - just my guess, I don't know anything about it.

"I think this is Off Topic too, and the internet is the last place to look for advice on these sort of issues..... say no more.
But good luck"
Looks to me like it was Blues decision to lock this topic.
I really dont get his last comment. Lots of people get help on the internet, for some people it might be their ONLY form of assistance.
The Max Clifford style spin doctoring is wearing thin though.
