Am sitting here in the hut in far off land thinking about me leave coming up at home on the farm and am reminising abit (cant be ar45ed with spell check) as a teenager in the 80's I spent 5 years (at skool) on farms, then 6 years after working for a living on dairy and arable units in somerset, before I joined up with HM. It seemed to me then we where always having a laugh at work, in summer and winter I know there where a few grim bits cattle die and machines break when you are busy etc, It just seems to me that now when i am 'Home'' working on leave Its always flat out never enough hours in the day, the mobiles always ringing '' why aint you finished that etc, I know rose tinted glasses make days gone by look good and now farms dont have the people working on them but it just seems that the 'Good'' or 'fun' seems to have vanished in a puff of smoke.. Its now good when you drive into a neighbours place usually on the cadge for summat and have a natter for 10 mins as apart from the Guv or the bloke you work with who you saw going out the gate at 0630 or what ever he might be the only bloke/lass you'll see all day.. Dont get me wrong i aint having a gert downer or nothing just wondered if any one else had any thoughts or observations.
Chow for now rollon july home for a few weeks BV

Hi bigvern, your right there is more rush and stress in farming today. As a stock farmer we have had brucellosis, foot and mouth, swine fever, fowl pest,BSE,Maff,Defra,RPA,BCMS,passports,ELS ,organic and many more so its no wonder the fun has gone
However there is a light at the end of the tunnel, farming is getting better, youngsters are keen to get into farming and this should the biggest motivation for us all

Just think of all those sheep out there doing their job of thinking up new and interesting ways to die! Can't beat a walk around the livestock on a nice early summer morning though.
