Being in Iran in 1978, and seeing the events unfolding, are we about to enter or be on the cusp of the Islamic Enlightenment??

In the not too distant future science will unravel religion and the meaning of existence, and then the two sides will move closer together towards a universal theory of everything. But it will take the more fundamentalist religions a bit longer to come down from their perches and accept that their long held beliefs have been a bit wide of the mark.

In what way are they being enlightened? Modern technology, scientific discovery or even hard fought democracy won't alter the world and make everyone happy. As long as there are people with differences, the have and have nots, there will be conflict.
With such a massive gulf between the worlds rich and poor, it is no wonder there are extremists.

There always have been, and always will be extremists. Its part of the human condition, and it keeps the rest of us on our toes.

I've known and worked with iranianas for over 35 years!
What saddens me is the fact that most of them are ordinary, honest, (as long as he is not a trader!) people who are not relegious zealots who just want to get on with their lives.
The bearded ones have taken over the country on a precept of the Islamic revolution, plundered the countries walth and are using religion to quash the people.
The young, internet savvy generation will eventuelly free the country. I expect the Mullahs to flee to their luxury boltholes on Qeshm island that they think nobody knows about.

Unfortunately we do not have an Oliver Cromwell, we should get rid of all of them...
“you have been sat to long here for any good you have been doing. Depart, i say, and let us have done with you. In the name of god, go!.”
