Hi everyone, I'm originally from Shropshire, currently immersing myself in milking cows in North Otago, NZ. Keen on dairy farming, rugby and country sports. This is not an advert I promise but here is a link to my blog if you are interested: flinnz.blogspot.co.nz/

Hello Flawders. I'm already reading your blog after your friend posted it on BFF & am enjoying it very much. Fantastic photos too. One question, can you tell me why there's such a difference in the interval between the milking - 5:00 am and at 2:30 pm?

How do you mean a big difference in the interval between milking? Difference from normal uk times? I thought that was pretty similar.
Also I have tried to get onto BFF in the past, but my free gmail account is not good enough for them!

How do you mean a big difference in the interval between milking? Sorry! What I was trying to say was, that usually there's close to a 12 hour interval between milkings, eg. 5am & 5pm ... or there abouts.

ive only ever milked at similar times to 5am and 2:30pm so i cant really compare! its pretty normal here i think, and i had thought it was pretty normal back home in the uk nowadays. Theres a bit more milk in the morning but the cows are a bit less active eating overnight.

and the reason why is so we finish at 5/6pm rather than 8/9pm sounds very reasonable! ;D how many cows will there be milking when this block of calving finishes?
