For some reason my parents used to get hugely excited by the TV wrestling on Saturday afternoon in the 70s - and the favourite villain was this guy. uk.news.yahoo.com/mick-mcmanus-british-wrestling-legend-dies-121857323.html#T2Qq24A(Forearm smash, when the bell had gone but the ref was mysteriously absorbed in looking the other way) With hindsight it was all staged just like current TV wrestling but in a less blatant way. It now seems amusing that middle-aged and rather overweight men managing to pull off the deceit at all.

Some of the reports yesterday seemed to be unclear about his exact age although 92 seems to be the most common age given. I can remember seeing him on TV in the 70s though. Do you remember him from your wrestling days Joyce?

I remember going to an evening of wrestling in the Albert Hall in Llandrindod Wells in the eighties when Klondike Jake and the masked Kendo Nagasaki were heading the bill. We were ringside and could see the daylight between the wrestlers' feet and opponents' heads and all that sort of thing and then an old woman hit six bells out of Klondike Jake with her handbag after he was thrown out of the ring. At the end of the evening we were talking outside the back of the hall before going home and a minibus pulled up and all the wrestlers got in as happy as Larry and also the old girl with the handbag. We had a damn good laugh. Mick was one of our favourite baddies. Hell those trunks were tight
