From the official Village Hall re-opening on 15th, someone just sent me these to put on the village web site.
The Duke of Gloucester is the one with the most ill-fitting and crumpled suit
The somewhat taller guy on the right, apparently wearing a suit borrowed from his Dad is our neighbour.
He is an accomplished public speaker and did the welcoming, thanks, goodbyes etc.
The whole thing took about 20 minutes then he had to zoom off in a helicopter to another job at Pickering.
The duke has a life-long interest in architecture so he was seriously quite interested especially in the eco-friendly borehole heat exchange system and solar panels which give the hall it's own quite generous income. Averaged over the year it easily 'sells' more power than it uses.
The minor problem is it all cost most of £250,000,000 which would have been out of the question even with eco-grants if they hadn't got a generous donation from the David Ross foundation.
David Ross is a big chum of David Cameron and owns the moorland all round as a shooting estate.
This is the Ross fish finger family but he was a major share holder in Carphone Warehouse and Talk Talk broadband.
Second from right here.
A Corn Dolly 'Crown' was presented to him, the lady (seated), and her late husband have always had an interest in making unusual corn dollies.
In her youth she used to work on our farm and 'Milked 18 cows by hand' - usually on her own.
