In the 60s, we had a phase with several internationally successful female singers, with powerful and evocative styles. They sold millions of records and were popular across a wide age range, a lot of the hits could be literally sung along too in a way which is rare nowadays. Whether you liked her or not she was one a of a rare group of people which could justifiably be called a National Treasure. Instantly recognisable by almost everyone for decades. I've been away on holiday for a few days but did just catch this via a news app and must say it came as a bit of a shock.
It seems very sad & strange to watch the recent docu-drama 'Cilla' with Sheridan Smith now being repeated as an obituary/tribute.
