The Black Rats you get in Eastern Europe have longer tails even than our brown ones, and in cold weather they will huddle together for warmth. But their tails will sometimes stick together with ice while they sleep. When they find they are stuck they go in a blind panic and twist round each other which in rare cases results in a completely secure knot and they have to go around tied together even trailing dead ones between.
