Yes, very well done Rose! Was introduced to all her sheep and they are seriously gorgeous - but an awful lot of work!! Well done again on Reserve Champion.
Woolsery is such a lovely show and there's quite a cult following for Blues there now. It's ultra laid back and relaxed and, because we're pretty lucky in our breed that we all get on reasonably well, it's turning into a proper social event as well. In fact, we even joked we ought to have a SW Blues Breed show there ! Trouble is, it's dire if it's wet there...
Anyway, good show for NewPole - we won the 2009 heifer class from eight forward, plus 2nd, fourth and fifth. Ermintrude with Phil handling was first this time, Elma and George second, me fourth with Empress and Pip fifth with Eira. We were third out of four with our not-matching pair, we won the group of three against John Quick (we were the only two exhibitors who could put up at least two home breds out of some 20 plus Blues forward!!!), Enzo came second out of three in the 2009 bull class, Pip came second in young Handlers, so didn't take her trophy home - oops - so we had a very good show too! Judge did the usual and came round the lines afterwards and told me he didn't like Enzo at all and that my heifer should have been at the bottom of the class on movement but the rest of her was too good, so that's fair enough! On the other hand, he loved our other two heifers, so dems de breaks, as they say! Hastes got breed with Dash, Dazzle was Reserve Champion.
We'd put out gazebos up all together, so it was a lovely day with kids and Bert, 'our' Weimaraner, all having great fun, Pip and Phil ended up in the big round cattle water trough (I have the video...), Andrew Haste provided the ice creams again - I hope the kids will remember show days like that when they're older, it was really great.

Woolsery is a terrific little show, a great day out & if ever your down that way at show time do spend a day there. As Jules said if it's wet it is a bit of a mud bath but that's part of an agricultural show, especially over the last few years.

They had a wet one last year and I fancy this year's was a tad quieter than usual, maybe because of that ? As Rose says, if ever your on hols down this way at the end of July, it's one show to put on your calendar. Honestly not a huge amount to actually see but the setting is stunning, everyone there really seems to enjoy themselves and it's got a really special atmosphere.

Phew back in from N. Devon Show, which was at new showground. Good layout and plenty of hard track for the vehicles but, as it always seems to, it rained very hard on and off from about 7am until 10,30, horizontal rain and high winds - I was frozen !!
However, it stopped when our judging started and we were judged in winds but sunshine. We only took three and one trailer, as I was pretty sure our judge wouldn't like Empress and Eira, so we left them at home.
Luckily, I was proved right and Enzo (with Pip handling and me tapping on) won his class from four forward - including the Breed Champion at Royal Cornwall! Then Ermintrude and Elma, with Phil and I handling won 1st and 2nd from 8 forward, so we couldn't have done much more! They were our Group of Three, which we won too, much to our amazement, as Dazzle (who was Breed and Interbreed Ch today) and her two stable mates were also competing, plus another very even group of three. So that qualified us for the Interbreed group of three (which we won in 2008!) and we took that trophy again, which gobsmacked us with such a young team and up against some very stiff competition.
So a wonderful show and the youngsters really did a good job for us. All nice and clean and fed and safely tucked up - not going to be happy when they have to do Honiton tomorrow but that's our penultimate show - just Dunster on the 20th and then they'll be let down and turned right out to grow and chill.

Thanks all - Honiton was, as usual, a lovely show to be at - well organised, friendly and with a huge entry of cattle forward. We wer ein AOB Continental and there were only our entries, another Blue exhibitior who had bought a heifer from us and a big Charolais bull owned by Colin Hutchings, who many might know as being a very well known exhibitor of Lims and Angus. The Chari won open Bull, Enzo (standing alone) won 2009 bull and we picked up 1st, 3rd, 4th and 5th with N. Dynamite picking up 2nd. We thought it would be a done deal for the Champion but no - we picked that up with Empress and Dynamite took Reserve, so we were very happy! Pip won Young handlers 13 - 16 and did a great job there.
Empress didn't go any further in the Female Championship (Honiton do best female, then best male, who then compete against each other for Supreme) - Mike Alford of Stillmans butchers/abattoir was the Interbreed judge and we knew she wouldn't have enough flesh for him. But what was 'wrong' in our eyes and a fair few others, was that the winner of the Female Championship was the Reserve Ch in the Lim breed and she went on to win overall Supreme Champion... Daft system at Honiton, as the Lim Bull, who won their Breed Champion, was beaten in the Bull Interbreed and so the Supreme was almost there by default. Very rude as far as the Lim judge was concerned, as basically it questions his judgement! I think letters will be written... !!!
So, while the competition wasn't exactly fierce we drew an awful lot of compliments from several judges alongside the ring who liked what they saw of ours and Mile Alford apparently came back along the lines and spoke to Reg about our Blues. He took one look at Ermintrude and said if she'd been in the ring, it might have been a different result!!!
So we've had a very tiring but rewarding two days. The show cattle are now all out in their paddocks chilling out and having a well deserved few days off. Just Dunster to do in two weeks and then that's us finished for this season.
