Has this scheme gone countywide as opposed to countrywide?
Suffolk police seem to offer : Neighbourhood watch, Gamekeeper, Marine and Racing Stable watch Shop watch Pub watch
A quote from their website: These reflect both the rural and urban make-up of our county.
Hmm... A largely rural area but no Farm watch.... wholly typical of the poor understanding of their local communities from Suffolk Constabulary.... My dad, who was a policeman for 30 years, would be turning in his grave....
To be honest, the police can have all the schemes they want.... generally, in my opinion, they are an attempt to get people to 'police' for themselves.....

Thanks QB I was under the impression that it had gone countrywide although it is linked in with Horsewatch who email me through both, including a regular list from Hampshire police, so it might well be covered by Horsewatch in your area.

Title: ADVICE REGARDING HAY AND STRAW THEFTS
Further to our previous message concerning the increase in the number of thefts of bails of hay and straw from fields and barns across the county. Farmers and livery yards are asked not only to report any thefts and be aware of vehicles seen in suspicious circumstances, but to mark the twine on their bails in a unique way where possible. Police patrols have been tasked to stop vehicles seen carrying bails at night, unfortunately one bail looks like any other and any help in identifying where it came from would be useful. We do appreciate that for many large scale farmers this will prove to be a very difficult request.
Any sightings of suspicious activity should be reported to Sussex Police on 0845 6070999 as soon as possible. If you see a crime being committed or believe one is about to be committed then dial 999.

It's both amusing and perhaps a little depressing that the notices above use the word "bail" (as in guarantee to stand trial etc.) as opposed to "bale" (as in bundle of hay etc.).

Included in a Hampshire Horsewatch file for anyone who may be interested:
Can you help? Hampshire Constabulary is looking for volunteers to assist with its Humane Animal Dispatch Scheme, particularly in the area running between Bishops Waltham and Winchester. The scheme allows the police to quickly contact the right person to assist with the humane dispatch of deer injured in accidents on the road. The scheme was established in 2008 between Hampshire Constabulary Firearms Licensing Department and the British Deer Society. Humane Animal Dispatchers are experienced in humanely dispatching animals and are subject to a review by our Firearms Licensing Department. Those on the scheme must have an open condition on their Firearms Certificate and hold a relevant insurance policy. If accepted on the scheme, members are provided with an authorisation from the Chief Constable to act as a Humane Animal Dispatcher. An application form can be supplied by contacting PS Richard LANE at Hampshire Police HQ 0845 0 45 45 45 ext 792231 or via richard.lane@hampshire.pnn.police.uk

Title: LOCK UP YOUR LAND ROVERS OR DEFEND YOUR DEFENDERS
Land Rover Defenders continue to be a vehicle of choice to steal. Older Defenders can appear much newer as there are few changes in design over the manufacturing years making them attractive to thieves. Intelligence suggests that a number of Land Rover Defenders are being stolen and cloned. There have been a number of reports of thefts in adjoining areas, the most recent incidents from our districts include;-
Amberley Overnight 13th to 14th December 2010 from Hog Lane a green Defender X 928 XAF. Police reference 168 of 14/12/2010 refers
Forest Row Between 8th to 11th December 2010 a green Land Rover used off road on farm found abandoned in Balcombe on 11th. Police serial 662 of 11/12/2010 refers.
Ardingly Between 8th and 11th December 2010 a blue Defender registration BD 03 WPP from the High Street. Police reference 647 of 11/12/2010.
Christmas is often a high risk time for theft from the rural area including seasonal favourites such as Christmas trees and turkeys, if you see any suspicious behaviour please do not hesitate to contact the Sussex Police on 0845 60 70 999 immediately or 999 if you believe a crime is in progress. When reporting incidents to the Police please say you are a Farmwatch member.

Issue Date: 13/12/2010
Title: TIS THE SEASON TO NICK HOLLY – ETC
H Reg, White Toyota Hilux, seen acting suspiciously on 3 consecutive days, last week, in the Snowdrop Lane area of Lindfield. On the last occasion this vehicle was seen full of Holly.
Any sightings, please contact Sussex Police on 0845 60 70 999 and quote serial 0809 08/12/10.
GRIT BINS
During the recent snow it has been reported by Highways that salt has been removed from the bins to grit private driveways and not roads and paths as intended. In one incident a flat bed truck removed the entire contents of a grit bin within minutes of it being filled.
Any incidents should be reported to Sussex Police on 0845 60 70 999.
ANIMAL FEED and BEDDING
There has been an increase in reports of thefts of hay, bedding and horse feed from barns and stables. With the increase in cost this is likely to be an ongoing problem, and owners of livery yards and stables are asked to pass this information on to horse owners. Any incidents should be reported to police.
ATTEMPT THEFT OF TRACTOR
Over £600 million worth of agricultural machinery (including Quad Bikes) has been stolen in England and Wales over the last 12 months, and last week an attempt was made to steal a Massey Ferguson tractor from a barn in the Forrest Row area. This was valued at over £120,000. The attempt failed after the thieves stalled the tractor and failed to get it re started.
It is recommended that owners of agricultural machinery consider security marking and registration of their equipment. For more information, contact your local Crime Prevention Officer or Neighbourhood Policing Team.
MANY THANKS!!!!
A big thank you to all those farmers and 4x4 owners who assisted the police and public during the recent snow. Keep up the good work!
