Dear Horse Watch member,
Firstly thank you to all Horse Watch members that have reported the movements of W97PPD in recent days. We believe that we have now narrowed down the search for this vehicle and our efforts are now concentrating on stopping and searching this vehicle, please continue to report its movements if seen.
In the early hours of Monday morning (6th February) 4 people were stopped in a saloon vehicle on the B2133 in Newpound Common. Upon officers searching the vehicle a number of tools suspected to be used in the commission of crime were located. All 4 occupants were arrested and have been bailed following interview for further enquiries.
Yesterday morning (Thursday 9th February) 3 people were arrested in Petworth Town Centre. A vehicle was spotted by 2 of our sharp eyed response team colleagues and was stopped. Again on searching the vehicle a number of items that could be used in the commission of thefts and burglaries were located. All 3 were arrested for going equipped to steal. One of these males has been linked to a local overnight burglary just days before.
Please continue to report all suspicious activity, your local Neighbourhood officers actively follow up all reports and your information may be the missing link we have been looking for.
Report can be made via the new 101 number, if you believe a crime is being committed there and then, please dial 999.
Kind Regards
Chris Glasspool Police Constable CG151

Title: CRIME TRENDS
There has been a significant increase in the theft of gas cylinders throughout the country, not for the gas, but for their scrap value. There was a recent attempt in the centre of Horsted Keynes. If you have gas cylinders or know someone who does, it is advisable to keep them out of sight and secured where possible.
There has been a large amount of thefts of generator cables over the past 3 months. Four piles of sheathing were found dumped on a country lane in the Lindfield area. Most of the offences took place between 5.30 and 9pm on farms or associated rural locations. It is evident by the locations of the offences that the offenders would have to have seen the sites in daylight before committing the thefts at a later time or date. Some of the locations were well away from any public roads or footpaths.
Be particularly aware of any suspicious activity and report it immediately by dialling 101. If you believe a crime has or is about to take place then dial 999.

HORSE THEFTS IN STURMINSTER NEWTON – WITNESS APPEAL
Dorset Police have asked for our help
Officers are appealing for witnesses and anyone with information to come forward after three horses were stolen from a field in Sturminster Newton.
The thoroughbred horses – a 12-year-old15.3hh light bay mare, a 16.2hh three-year-old bay gelding and a 16hh two-year-old dark bay filly with a white hind sock – were stolen from a field near Okeford Hill in Hazelbury Bryan between 5pm on 29 March and 6.30am on 30 March 2012. All three horses are micro chipped. The mare is due to foal any day now and had a red halter around its head. Police Constable Julie Pearson, of Shaftesbury Police, said: "I believe that the horses may have been led out of the field through a gate which is not locked since it is located along a public bridleway. “It is possible that the horses were taken down a nearby track to the road where they were loaded into a lorry before being driven away. "I would like to speak with anyone who may have seen a lorry or other large transporter in the area overnight on 29 March. “I am also keen to speak to anyone who saw any suspicious activity in the Okeford Hill area at the time of theft or anyone with information about those responsible. "I would urge any livestock traders or auctioneers who believe they may have been offered the stolen horses to contact me as soon as possible.” Witnesses and anyone with information should call Dorset Police in confidence on 101 quoting incident number 30:161. Alternatively, call the free and anonymous Crimestoppers line on 0800 555 111 where mobile phone tariffs may apply.

Title: NORTH SUSSEX SEARCH TEAM

Have you ever thought about volunteering to search the countryside for vulnerable missing persons?
Why not join the growing team of volunteers who support Sussex Police in searching the thousands of acres of Sussex countryside, for some of the thousands of persons who are reported missing each year.
Once trained you only give what time you can spare, which is why we need a healthy number of volunteers.
There is a 4 hour training course running on Saturday 16th June at Haywards Heath Police Station, from 9am until 1ish pm. NO EXPERIENCE NEEDED. Only 16 places.
If you are available you can attend regular exercises are carried out throughout the year, and you get to see countryside not generally accessible to the public.
Further training in team leadership, control, first aid and map reading are available should you wish to go on to bigger things.
If interested contact PC Geoff Bennett at geoffrey.bennett@sussex.pnn.police.uk or 07768 687768 when on duty. The Sussex Police website has further details of the impressive work carried out by the volunteers.
