Various muddled reports about that he's in hospital/had a heart attack/found dead. www.tmz.com/Rather sad, he was only 50.

I can't believe it. A text woke me from a friend in Oz about 1am. Just been watching BBC news for the last 2 hours and it's truly shocking as the guy was a genius. This is going to be far far bigger than anything the world has ever seen over the next few weeks. I hope his children are looked after well. RIP The King Of Pop

Not a genius in my opinion, but good at what he did. I was never a fan of him or his 'music'. He could entertain those that liked that sort of thing, though. He will soon be forgotten, just like everyone else who dies is eventually forgotten. Probably the saddest thing is that he is more likely to be remembered for being weird than for his entertainment value.

Can't agree with you there Col, I think he will be remembered for his music more than his reputation, I'm 63 & think he was brilliant. I feel sad that he never knew what normal life was being pushed into the limelight at such a young age. Only last week I downloaded Michael Jackson onto my ipod.

Col,
MJ will be remembered probably forever. He's a 100 times better than both elvis and the beatles put together. The next few weeks are going to be much bigger than what we saw with Diana!

Same old story. Man has talent, gets famous. Fame/money/power= goes of the rails becomes recluse/outrageous media target.
It was a shame he got caught up in those child abuse charges, terrible thing for his reputation to have to endure, I never believed for a moment the man was a kiddy fiddler.

I was never an MJ fan, neither of the man or his music, just not my scene. However he did create an entire culture in the pop music world and had a massive global following, so you have to respect the guy for that. I can understand the grief his fans are feeling at his early passing. His death will serve as one of those 'marker posts' in life when in years to come people will ask 'What were you doing when you heard Michael Jackson died ?'

My two pence worth: Whatever we thought of the man himself, the one thing no one can deny is he was one hell of a showman. Hopefully wherever is he now he'll be at peace with himself. RIP

Guys,
Being well into music I've been to see a lot of bands over the years from all genre's. I had the privilege of seeing MJ twice both times in this country. All I can say is his shows compare to no others. He is in a different league to anybody else I have ever seen. The closest would be Live 8 but putting it into context - it was no where near to be honest.
Personally I dont believe he was a kiddy fiddler but there is no denying his upbringing has played a part in the way he was, which lets face it was a bit weird at times.
Its a sad sad day today.
